Webinar Recap - Road to Secure: Best Practices from The Experts to Kick Start Your Cybersecurity Journey in 2023

February 20, 2023
In Entara’s first webinar of the year, titled “Kickstart Your Cybersecurity Strategies in 2023,” Entara CISO, Raum Sandoval, and Director of Cybersecurity Services, Megan Mayer, discussed the first 3 solutions you need to add to your security stack to protect your business, your people, and your customers. The webinar also discussed why cybersecurity is important and covered the basics of what cyber security is.
Why is cybersecurity important?
Protect
Cybersecurity can help protect not only your company’s and employees’ sensitive information but also your customers’. A cyberattack can be detrimental to your reputation as a trusted employer and company. Having strong cyber security protection saves your business’ money, improves your reputation, and allows you to focus on what you do best: running your business.
Empower
Business owners have a lot on their plates to worry about when it comes to running their company, but cybersecurity protection shouldn’t be one of them. Having a strong cyber security strategy empowers owners to focus on their business knowing that they are protected from cyber threats. With hybrid and remote work being on the rise, good cybersecurity hygiene gives businesses the ease of knowing their business and their employees are protected, no matter where they are working from.
Improve
When faced with a cyber breach, every second counts. The more time a bad actor has, the more likely it is they will create extensive damage to your system. A mature cybersecurity strategy can help you identify a threat quicker, improve your response rate, and reduce the impact of a cyberattack. A swift response rate and quick action can positively impact your reputation as a trusted partner and employer.
Your Cybersecurity Journey
The Foundation
Before you can start anything, you need a strong foundation. The same is true for your cybersecurity journey. Adding security solutions to a weak foundation only checks a box. Before you can expand your cybersecurity strategy, you first need to ensure that you have foundational IT operations in place to support security solutions, as well as a robust and maturing security practice. This includes asset inventory, baseline security configurations, patch management and more.
Multifactor Authentication (MFA)
Multifactor Authentication, or MFA, is the first step to implementing cybersecurity practices into your business. MFA supports blocking unauthorized users from accessing your private information by requiring users to provide additional forms of authentication on top of a username and password.
Managed Detection and Response
Managed detection and response, or MDR, is the next solution businesses should integrate to add another layer of protection to their cybersecurity stack. MDR is a combination of monitors on a device that identify and respond to known bad or anomalous processes. It notifies your IT team when something malicious is happening within your environment
Email Security
Email security protects end users from one of the most common ways threat actors gain access to your environment - phishing emails. This crucial service blocks an email that contains a link that, if clicked, would deploy malware onto your computer and infect it with a virus.
Cybersecurity Awareness Training
With the tools listed above in place, it’s important for employees to understand the importance of these tools and how to use them properly. Cybersecurity awareness training should be conducted on a regular basis and teach all employees, regardless of position and seniority, how to protect their organization from cyber threats. The greatest threat to an organization is its workers, and this mentality should be stressed to everyone who works online.
