Webinar Series: Understanding Ransomware and How to Mitigate Risk

Ransomware attacks are an inevitability, but they do not need to severely interrupt your business’s continuity, reputation, or wallet if you take the right preventative steps.

The Entara Professional Services team has completed over 100 projects and nearly 50,000 hours of incident response work over the past two years. Mike Brunetti, the Director of Professional services at Entara, shared his insights from this work in a three-part webinar series with Tintri, a DDN® subsidiary and the leading provider of auto-adaptive, workload intelligent platforms.  

During the Tintri Talk In Leadership webinar series, Brunetti shared real-world insights into ransomware attacks and how to recover. He was also joined by Steve Phillips, Principal Systems Engineer at Tintri, as they discussed what ransomware is, how to prepare for an inevitable ransomware attack, and how to proactively limit exposure to future cyber threats. The series concluded with an open Q&A session where attendees could ask the expert hosts for practical advice on all things ransomware.  

Webinar 1: Understanding Ransomware

‍In the first session, Brunetti shared what happens when a company is attacked and the process threat actors typically follow to disrupt a company’s systems. The webinar also reviews common errors and security gaps that Brunetti has seen in his work that make an organization a likely target of ransomware.

Webinar 2: Taking Preventative Measures

In the second session, Brunetti and Phillips discussed various ways to recover from a ransomware attack, including focusing on restoring data from backup storage resources to rebuild a company’s infrastructure. Citing real-world customer examples, Brunetti shared the pros and cons of restoration using traditional storage versus a storage system with snapshots enabled. During this session, Phillips also gave a demonstration showing how Tintri Global Center (TGC) can be configured to classify different VMs based on priority, and group them to follow the same policies and snapshot schedule.
